Today April 5th was “One Day Without Shoes” by TOMS Shoes.
TOMS is a company that sells shoes (and soon more), and when you buy one pair of their shoes they give a pair of shoes to a child in need. In many countries kids have to go barefoot because they are not able to afford shoes. Not having shoe in these countries can cause a lot of health concerns for these kids. So the founder of TOMS saw a need and did something about it.
I love TOMS, I bought my first pair two years ago and will be ordering my third (and maybe fourth) in a few weeks. I love the mission that they have and how many kids they are helping.
So back to “One Day Without Shoes”. Each year they promote this event, it is a chance for us to take our shoes off and start some conversations.
Capri and I went barefoot to our baby sign class today (she never wears shoes but that is okay). It was cold and wet out. Walking on cold and wet pavement is not fun and my feet hurt. But tomorrow I can put my shoes back on so my feet don’t hurt. As Capri gets older I want her to realize how lucky she is that she lives in the country she does and has the things she has. We might not have a lot but we sure have a lot more than most of the world.
