Book Organization

The picture on the left is what our bookshelf in the playroom looked like when we first moved in last year. Over the year we have added A LOT more books to our collection, and the kids have started climbing and pulling all of the books down when they want one. So the picture on the right is what our playroom normally looks like. I LOVE books. I am an avid reader and usually have 2-4 books on the go at once (some work related some for fun), but I read all the time. I never want to limit my kids on how many books they can have, but this was getting out of control.

piles

So after the girls were in bed tonight I brought all of their books out (well the ones I could find I am sure there are random books in their rooms and the van), and organized them into piles. I put all of our Christmas books into one pile, all of our Bible books into another, board books went together and so on and so forth.

10 piles

From these organized piles I separated them into 10 piles of 13 books each. Each pile had books from all of the piles above (except Christmas those are being kept together in a whole other bag). I did end up making a pile of books to sell/donate that were either duplicates or just ones that we don’t really read or I don’t really like.

bagged

I picked up eleven .99 cent reusable bags from the store and put a pile into each bag (Christmas being the eleventh bag). They will have one bag of books a week, and at the end of the week we will swap it for a new bag. Not only will this help cut down on mess it will also help with actually reading all of the books we own instead of the same 5 that I feel we read all the time now.

I hope this helps someone else out in organizing their kids books. And now I have to figure out where to store the other 10 bags that are not currently out.

13 Weeks and Craving Carbs

13weeks

I am currently 13 weeks and 3 days pregnant with baby number 3. I am thinking this baby is a boy because of the lack of vomiting and the craving for carbs that I didn’t have with both girls.

But I most likely won’t be finding out the gender this time around because the hospital we go to won’t tell you (if you are new we moved a year ago, and our old hospitals told us gender). So that is kind of SUPER ANNOYING!!!

Besides that though I have been feeling pretty good. I am going for blood work in the morning and get to drink some nasty orange stuff. I have been wearing maternity clothes for a few weeks now because I am HUGE!!! But there is only one baby in there, I had a dating Ultrasound last week because the doctor didn’t believe my dates (PS I was right).

This is my first time being pregnant in the summer so I went out and bought a few pairs of maternity shorts and I LOVE THEM. They are really comfortable and I got them at a consignment shop so I didn’t have to pay full price.

dollyCapri likes talking about the new baby and really wants to hear the heartbeat with the App I got for my phone that allows you to listen to the heart, but I am still too early for it to work. If you are interested in the app you can check it out here. I have a friend who used it and said it works so I thought I would give it a try. It uses your phones microphone to pick up the heart beat.

Capri also insists that she is growing a dolly in her belly, and will show me where the dolly is growing anytime we talk about the new baby or watch videos of new babies. It is really cute.

Payson has no idea what is going on, but does enjoy lots of snuggles and is making sure to be highly attached to her mommy.

So I suck at blogging my pregnancies, as you can see by the few that I did in each pregnancies with the girls. But who knows, maybe you will get a few updates before I announce that the baby has been born.

Three Years of Diaper Bags

diaper bag

When I was pregnant with Capri I bought my first diaper bag. I have no idea what I was thinking when I bought this Bily Diaper bag from Toys R Us. It is so ugly and boring. I do not like carrying around ugly and boring things.

I also got to a good point with Capri where I knew exactly what we needed in our diaper bag for most trips out of the house. I was walking to a lot of our destinations so I decided that I needed something smaller, cuter, and just plain more awesome.

I happened to win a gift certificate to an online Etsy shop who made diaper bags and I was able to get a custom diaper bag made. It was awesome and the perfect size for that time in our life.

son up bag

The bag is from Son Up Until Son Down, which is an Etsy store. I blogged about the bag and all the things I could fit into it, even though it is on the small side (which is what I love about it). You can read more about it here.

I was in love with this bag and got so many compliments on it. Every once and a while however I would go some place and I would need a BIGGER bag. Or a bag that could hold my ginormous coffee thermos. So I had the privilege of reviewing the Boba Pack that goes with my Boba 3G.

Boba

I could fit so many things into this bag, and I could attach it to my Boba 3G if I wanted to make things easier. You can see how much stuff I got into this bag here.

This bag was great for days that we were out of the house for a lot longer, and also when Capri started needing more snacks brought along for the day. I was able to organize and fit a good amount in it.

Vera

And then I got pregnant with Payson and I realized that I would have two little ones in cloth diapers. One of those kids ate like a horse and needed an entire grocery store brought out for a day trip, and of course all that a newborn would need.

So I traded my Plum Applecheeks for a Vera Bradley Diaper bag. It is HUGE. I mean check this out and see how much stuff I can fit into it. Payson spit up like crazy so we always had 3-4 spit up blankets in the bag, plus lots of diapers, snacks and various other things.

beprepared

And now baby number 3 is due to make his/her entrance in December of this year (2013). Capri is mainly potty trained during the day but I usually need to keep 1-2 outfits in the bag just in case of accidents (or random puddle jumping), and usually a diaper just in case. Payson still has 2-3 cloth diapers in the bag and an extra outfit or two. It also has snacks, water bottles, my wallet, a bag of random things I always seem to need while out. And in December I get to add all the things a newborn needs.

We tend to do long day trips (because we live in the middle of no-where and travel 30-60 minutes for day trips a few times a week). Which means I will need a fair amount of diapers for a newborn, plus blankets, clothes, ect. Which means I want a BIGGER diaper bag. And in comes the Ju-Ju-Be Be Prepared. The mother of all diaper bags. I could fit ALL 3 kids in this bag I am pretty sure. And isn’t the Mint Chip design just BEAUTIFUL??? And it will only cost me $195 plus TAX.

Okay so I might not get this wonderful, beautiful, very handy bag. But it is my dream bag. So there you have it. Three years, four diaper bags, 1 dream bag and almost three kids later.

Payson Malia Turns One

1year

zooPayson turned one the other day. What a fun day we had. We went to the zoo and she was just in love with all of the animals. After that we drove to my parents and had a family party with cake and presents.

The last year with Payson has been a wild ride. She was born just a month before we moved to a new Province and a new job. She cried non-stop for the first 6 months of life and only wanted her mommy. At 6 months she decide she would start crawling and started to become a happier baby. At 7 months she decide she would start walking around furniture, and at 10 months she started walking all by herself.

climbShe is our climber, and will stand on top of whatever she can pull her little body up onto. She is funny and laughs a lot. She is very interested in animals and loves hugging her doll.

She loves to hug and kiss and even loves snuggling with her daddy now. She is still very tiny, which just makes her all the more cute and loveable.

I am so excited to watch her grow and see her personality flourish. She is my very strong willed child and I am excited to see her become a strong young lady.

cakeShe had lots of fun on her birthday and even got to enjoy some cake.

We love you baby girl.
